Wiccle Resources and Modification / Templating Services - Click to Enlarge

With the new core 1.20 release, there have been more questions on available modifications and extensions. We have done a good deal of in-house extensions and modifications that are available in our development framework, much of which has not as of yet been rolled out in our public software releases.

To address this need, in the course of Q2 following the release of Wiccle Web Builder, we open Wiccle Fusion Resources as a new area in our Fusion community central. Fusion Resources will host free and pay-for extensions to iWiccle/Wiccle, some provided by ourselves, and some by the community and other independent developers.

There have also been inquiries on custom modifications, in particular such that aren't a part of our roadmap and not in our plans for the immediate future releases. We will also roll out a dual custom development model in the near future, offering 1) themes/templates, 2) modifications, 3) integrations, 4) extensions, and 5) custom modules.

In this dual service pricing model, you will have options to:

  • Pay a premium price if you want a proprietary result that isn't released into shared Wiccle resources or
  • Pay a community price (one third of premium price) if you let us add a general version of the work into free community resources for others to download and use, or integrate into next versions of our software.

In the "community price" option, you can get the full result for a fraction of the price by becoming a "community extension sponsor"; you win because you get what you need for less – but without delay, the community wins in the expanding shared resources, and we win with added value to our software and in some extra revenue.

In the "premium price" option, where you need proprietary solutions unique to your business, you pay the full price and get a premium business solution we won't release into the open. This option is offered for those who need proprietary software advantages for their own business and market reasons, but in reality we expect the bulk of activity to take place in the "community" section.

As we roll out the option for independent designers and developers to sell their work in our Wiccle Shop, we will also encourage and give incentives toward adopting the same dual model to both maximize their business, as well as contribute to the organic growth of the overall project and shared community resources.

This approach is very much in the spirit of our general hybrid commercial/open-source approach, where aside our main software sales we aim to both generate medium revenue from multiple additional sources, as well as to have 90% of what we do with anything contribute in some way to the total expanding body of Wiccle software and available resources.

From the fact that we are hiring a dev assistant, you will know that all technical hands come in handy! We have a lot more along the same lines coming up in the mid-term future, including a more extensive Wiccle Share network.

In general, we are into creating next generation business models that seek to maximize the different levels of material and immaterial benefits for the broadest possible audience.

I'm toying with the idea of allowing users to run their sites in "open-source mode", where the different shared-benefit elements (such as new page layouts, skins, widgets) can be tagged as "for share", and other iWiccle/Wiccle users will be able to download live modifications of your choice directly from your website.

We will also look at turning this into an optional pay-for feature, where you could maximize your site benefits by allowing people to "buy copies" of pieces on your site. You could then create the craziest mother of all Wiccle modification sites into one Wiccle installation, set it online, switch it into global "site selling" mode, and let everyone buy and download the pieces they want using the built-in site payment gateways.

Does any that sound interesting?
