Is there anyway now or planned for a user to subscribe to a specific Forum Zone, or to a specific thread?  Either as a feed or sent to an email address like the yahoo groups does?  (personally I think feeds are still not mainstream for enough basic users to have it be the best solution to offer users who want to subscribe to information - so being able to specify to have new content per module, module category and/or module post sent to a user's email address would optimal - a notification either like the new mail notification emails without actual content, or the option to actually have the content included in the email.

I know there is are the default Atom and RSS feed links at bottom of the page, but I suspect that is global for the whole site.

Thanks

Actually, if you look at the right column of the page, you will see that both the category ("Install and Modification") as well as the zone ("Public Forums") have a "Favorite" star next to them.

If you want to receive e-mail notifications whenver new posts are made, you can click on the favorite icon at the top of the forum Zones and Categories.

Then set the notifications to "E-mail" and expiry to "Never" (you can always delete it afterwards). You can see your current favorites and subscriptions under Members > Favorites.

If you subscribe to a Zone, you will automatically receive notifications of all new threads/posts in any category under the main zone. If you want to narrow down your notifications, you can just pick the categories you feel are relevant.

If you select "Visibility: Everyone", others will be able to see in your profile that you are subscribed, and will therefore receive an update notice when a new post is made.

Now, those notifications themselves aren't exactly top of the line as they are, which is something I have noted down for an upcoming upgrade (with an option for update message contents: Title+URL, Summary, or Complete).

Huh.  I tried that on my client's site and it did not work.  I clicked on the favorite star for a specific category, and set notification to email (and then another test after with another category to site mail), and then I created a new thread in those categories for both tests, and no mail to my site inbox or to my email address on file in my profile.

That's very odd because it does work for me, also here at Wiccle.com. And Keith, it also works at our Intra for me! One wonders if the software is giving special blessings for me or something. I will do a couple of test installs on different servers and test this in the course of the week. Tagged for investigation.
