Development Thread

This thread is where we will update the progress of WCB 2.0. While you can see the main task lists here, we will post here any extra news & misc stuff in this forum. There is some smaller tasks that have not made it into support.wiccle.com but that's normal enough as there is dozens of small things we will update across this version.

While the tasks are set in stone, I welcome any chat about them and it might not be possible to add new tasks suggested right now but feel free to add to the trac for the 2.1 version or just post here & i will grab them for the next update of this one.

So if you not taken a trip down support.wiccle.com yet on whats going into this mega packed version of 2.0, here are some highlights:

  • Rebuilt Admin section
  • Visual improvements across the whole system from admin, builders & display formats of unit boxes.
  • Video uploader / Video Chat / IM & Wiccle Chat upgrades
  • Wiccle Forums, Chat, Polls, Notebox, Downloads crossed over from WWB to WCB
  • Facebook Connect API fully intergrated with all the works
  • Social ID + others all fully intergrated
  • Banner Ads System
  • Dozens of new default Templates
  • Message / Email Template System
  • Members Module Extended with photos / videos / fan pages, etc. Lots of goodies here
  • Main Menu improvements - such as per menu button drop-down menu + new page buttons.
  • Dozens of core improvements

We will also release a Beta version of the 2.0 through the public SVN of WCB over at support.wiccle.com for everyone who is interested in testing out the new update and will help us nail any bugs we miss.

This update is by far one of the biggest we have ever done which is why we are calling it the 2.0 as it really pins down everything you will need for creating a great community / dating / or any kind of website.

Feel free to reply here with your thoughts, questions, etc. This is the community builder you have all been waiting for (and myself!), so lets make it the best we can. I do however want to see this version released by August and work has already been done on it, but it will be still be a very difficult development cycle for all the coders involved. We are pulling the stops out here so do send in your feedback & let me know here if you want to help test the Beta out which should be released by the end of July.

Hi Keith,

I'm still stuck on iWiccle 1.21.1 (dated 30 Jan 2010). Will this release give me a simple upgrade path to 2.0 (rebuild sql database from 1.21.1, etc)?

Thanks,

John

Hey John,

It will take about 1 week post the 2.0 release for the new upgrade scripts, will try to make them as straight forward & simple as possible. This should get you to the 2.0 build =)

Update:

We are in the final development phase of WCB 2.0, if beta testing goes well soon then you can expect a release by the end of August!!

Keep track on support.wiccle.com for the latest.

One key change to WCB 2.0 is the License system. We have removed the Trial period, so now WCB will work forever without a License Key and while the Footer Ads will remain (to help us put food on the table while continuing to update the system for the coming years), there is a major change to how it works.

When you (as the root admin) logs into your new WCB 2.0 website, the Footer Ads will now disappear!! That's right, they will vanish and you can focus on building your new site without ads. However when you log out, the Footer Ads will reappear as normal. We hope you like this change, sadly we can't remove the footer ads in whole but this move should help our members and if you want to support us as well remove the footer ads completely, then grab the life-time ads-free license for only $99 dollars.

More news to follow shortly!

Update:

The past week has involved alot of traveling on my side from our Silicon Valley office back to Ireland. The WCB 2.0 is ready to go but I will need to run a final test before release. Once this last test is done and all confirmed okay, it's a matter of minutes for release.

An upgrade script is currently in the works for WCB sites on older versions.

You all have done a wonderful job with this software. I just wanted to say thank you and keep up the great work. I also want to thank you for allowing me to join this great company, even if it is in a small way. In all the years I have been a webmaster and installed many CMS software, I must say this was the easiest and best so far, and feel as time goes on, this software will ROCK the cyber world with every new release.

Thanks Lightworlf :)

WCB 2.0 Update:

We caught a few little bugs that have now been fixed since release, with it only been a few hours and only a few people affected since release, I have replaced the zip folders with new one's containing the fixes.

Please download WCB 2.0 again from the downloads page to get the latest as we are not putting a patch out for this one. However if you are very fast with building your site with the new WCB 2.0 and don't wish to download & install again, send me an email and I will package up the files changed so you can drop them into your ftp folder, otherwise its just as easy getting the lastest version and change the dates of last changed to do the same. :)
