How is the Comment Wall supposed to work in the default Members/Settings/Wall?

For example, as user Webmaster, I went to Test User 2's wall and clicked on Leave a Message.  The message seemed to go through as it was displayed in that same column of the page under the Leave a Message box (although when I did send the message, the pop-up message box stayed there when I would have expected it to go away having just sent the message and seeing confirmation of it on the actual page).

But after having left that message and refreshing the page, I did not see the comment there anymore as Webmaster.  So I thought maybe it was a comment that only Test User 2 Would see, so I logged in as Test User 2, and no comment?

So I had Test User 2 leave a message on his own wall, which had the same result as above, but when I refreshed the page, it was gone.  And if I logged in as Webmaster, it was not there.  So who is supposed to be able to see those messages?

I checked the settings in the Builder for that box and there are no privilage restrictions?

the Comment Wall is a public wall where other members can post messages to you, and you can post whatever notes you wish. You can delete anything from the wall, others can delete their own comments.

The Comment Wall (or "Message Wall" as I think iWiccle calls it) is "Comments on Reverse" — latest entries are posted at the top. Otherwise it's currently the same deal — although it'll expand towards a Facebook-styled approach for improved social networking features.

To me, this works exactly as expected. I have now logged in with two separate accounts (Root Admin / Member level), and with both accounts, left comments on my own wall, as well as the other member's wall. Both can see all messages.

Can you confirm the situation in which the problem occurs, so I can try and replicate it on your server?

On my site,

  1. I logged in as Webmaster, you have my login,
  2. and went to the members section and clicked on Test User 6 to go to his profile,
  3. then clicked on Wall,
  4. then clicked on Leave a Message.
  5. A pop-up "Leave a Message" came up for me to enter a subject and message.  I entered both and clicked on the Publish button.
  6. Maybe this is key - the pop-up window did not go away, but it did empty itself of what I typed and I could see in the background on the wall that the comment had posted.  The Publish button changed to Published!  (Seems to me that the pop-up should close because having to then choose a method to close the window is not entirely intuitive (do I click "cancel" or the X) and I am done with my comment
  7. When I close the pop-up window, the comment is still there.
  8. When I refresh the page, it is gone.
  9. or - running a new test doing the same, if I just navigate away from the page and return, it is also gone.
  10. I re-did the same process with another Test User just to eliminate Test User 6 as single issue.

BUT - if I go to my own wall and comment, the pop-up window does go away after I hit the publish button and the comment does remain after I refresh my screen or go away and return.

And then here is a twist

I logged in as Test User 2 and ran the same testing process.  Same result when I tried to write a comment on Test User 6 - another user.  But when I wrote a comment on my own wall, I had the same error process as when I did this on another user's wall - that is, that the pop-up remained, and when I closed it, the comment was there, but when I refreshed the page, the comment was gone - vanished - poof.

Okay, this one has been resolved. Confirmed bug when using comment wall with for users with spaces in username.

To fix, apply this patch file (ZIP, 3KB) in place of your /core/ajax/comments.php on WWB 1.0.1.

Please confirm that this resolves the issue for you; I have tested it criss-cross with "Admin User" and "Test User 2" on my local server.
