I added a new Poll which once submitted worked fine. I then went in and edited the User Groups able to view the Poll. I opened the poll out to everyone including Guests, Members, Premium Members and saved. Now on load only a white page appears.Any ideas please? Thx.

Hi BobT,

Thanks for your question! =)

Our tech team will be back tommorow to help answer your question and see whats going on under the hud of the polls module. We are planning a massive range of new features across the board on all modules this summer, including polls.

Hi BobT,

Could we have the address to your site please so we can observe what is occuring? What PHP error is displaying on the blank white screen that appears. This will help us decipher what is going on under the hood.

How/where do you edit user groups for a single poll?

The more precisely you can report what exactly you did and where, the easier it is for us to replicate and address the problem.

The blank white screen most likely just means error reporting is turned off in php.ini.

Hi Kyle, Marcus; here is the URL to the error page. http://www.ideas-shared.com/is/index.php?module=polls. I edited the user groups in site builder, at the bottom where it says edit, then highlighted each of the user groups.

You can go to another page under the module, such as: http://www.ideas-shared.com/is/index.php?module=polls&show=all_polls — and then undo the edit as follows:

  • Start builder under whichever page
  • Select the "home" layout from the Layout dropdown
  • Undo the changes you did that triggered this (and note down what broke it)
  • See in a separate tab if the module index page is now visible (if not, continue editing)

--

There is also a possible general cause for a blank page, which sometimes results from editing a content box with IE7. While usually the module dropdown selector is blank by default, IE7 omits the blank option and just selects the next ("Admin"), which is an invalid option in this context (and removed in the upcoming build).

To fix this, follow the steps listed above, and change the Module switch back to blank in the affected unit that breaks the whole page — using another browser. (The builder tool isn't 100% IE7 guaranteed.)

However, what exactly is it that you wish to do here:

Do you want to 1) limit access to the module and its pages or content boxes, or 2) limit access to content that is posted (such as the individual polls themselves)? The builder tool is good for the first, and for the second you will need to change usergroup module permissions in the Admin CP.
